Default gauge cluster ideas

i want to put after market gauges in but, i dont want to spend 500 bones on a modified repro. and still buy gauges. JME makes a nice setup but its between 6&8 hundred. so any ideas or less expensive parts let me know. thanks

The only thing I've seen in the 500-600 dollar range is the Dakota Digital gauges. If you can find a JME cluster for 600-800, you should scoop it up. They sell for 1100 & up on their web site.

If you want to build your own, here's a site that shows you how:

http://www.edbert.net/gauges.htm

This is not that hard of a project, but you'll spend $400 on the AutoMeter gauges alone, plus $100 for a new bezel. The cheapest web site I've found for purchasing gauges is

I put the Dakota Digital cluster in my 65. I like it, but if I had to do it all over again I would probably go with a stock GT bezel and put some Stewart Warner gauges in it. If you want, I can take some pics of what the Dakota Digitals look like installed. Good luck!

I drilled out my stock bezel and just threw some autometer guages in. Doesn't look great, but doesn't look that bad either...

It looks absolutely awesome. Personally I think it looks better than my gauge package. The stock size speedo fits the cluster better. I'd bet he's got about $350.00 total invested at most. And it could be done cheaper. Just depends on the gauges used.

If you want another idea, there is a write up on the gauge package I did on the website in the signature below. the custom gauges were pretty spendy, but it would give you an idea of how you could configure your setup.

good luck!
There's no tach....it's the most important one..

I bought a 66 instrument panel ($30), cut off the bezels and surface-mounted AutoMeter Ultra-Lite gauges. I put the tach and boost gauge in a Shelby dash pod.

I agree with Nassaubayman the egauges website is the cheapest I've found. I plan on putting autometer gauges in my car but know I'll spend around 800 for everything. The JME is at least 1100 from what I've seen from multiple websites.

Let us know what you decide and post pics.
