Default Heater Core

I was looking at buying a 1969 Mustang Grande. it needs new floor pans and the heater core needs to be replaced. I don't mind replacing the floor pans but I want to know how hard it is going to be to replace the heater core. do I need to remove the entire dashboard or can I get to it from the glove box?
Thanks for any help.

Its not nearly as hard as replacing a floor pan. You can take the entire dash out in a fairly easy step by just unbolting it all. Or just take off the dash pad to give you some room to work and see and pull the core that way. Its really not that bad. Take your time and spread it out over a couple of days. Pull it one day, build it the next, and then install the next. Dont loose the little tabs that connect your control cables like I did.

no idea how hard the heater core is to replace in a 69, but in a 65 it's quite easy and probably is way easier than replacing the floorpans.
However when the floorpans are gone the first thing I'd check on is the cowl. poor some water (a bucketful) down the cowl right in front of the windscreen, if the water is coming out on the inside of the car I'd stay away from the car as that is a major repair

Also, Make sure to mark the cables with tape before removing if necessary so they function the same. I know this is necessary on 65-66, don't know how it is on 69.

It can be done without removing the dashpad. You can unscrew the glove box door to have better access and do everything from underneath. I found the 69 to be much easier than my friend's 67/68.

It might be easier to hook up the new heater hoses to the core first and pass them through the firewall from inside the car during installation. Otherwise, it is kinda hard to access the clamps to tighten them properly.

replaced it in my '67, just took the glove box out and got to work, definitely an easier job than floor pans
