t5 swap help

Default t5 swap help

i installed a t5 with a clutch cable conversion kit in my 65 coupe. my clutch pedal is very stiff i have a 1986 t5 bellhousing a new throwout bearing king cobra clutch kit. any ideas anyone

Did you change the front retainer bearing cover on the input shaft? Sometimes the aluminum one galls and binds the throw out bearing. There are steel ones that eliminate the problem. Did you lightly lube the throw out bearing shaft?
Dont have too much experience with the cable because we went hydraulic for the clutch

Default new retainer

installed new steel retainer ,lite grease , the clutch fork is about 1/2 to 3/4 the way back in the bell open but is very stiff being pulled forward

Cable doesn't have any binds in it?

+1 on the bind- it's probably bent too much or too little somewhere.

Unless the quadrant isn't the right one.

One last note- I have heard complaints about how stiff a cable type clutch can be.

Its suppose to feel stiff.... Its working fine...IF, when the clutch is all the way in you can push the car with it in gear on smooth level ground very easily and when the clutch is all the way out nothing is slipping under full power

If I had to guess I would look at the pressure plate. The after market high performance plates have a lot more spring pressure than stock and thus require a lot more pedal pressure to actuate.
