Shifter bezel cover....
My '66 originally had a console. I removed it and decided to not have a console.
Installed carpet. Opened up my new Scott Drake shifter bezel cover and was anxious to install it. Doesn't fit. The holes in the bezel are much farther apart than what's on the metal shifter housing.
So my question, is the metal housing around the shifter the same whether console or not? I thought the only difference was the housing around it.

I would keep the console. I hardly ever see them in cars at the local cruise in shows.
I think that the shifter bezel is different for non console.

You probably need what you linked to as well.

Exactly.
The 64-68 console selector bezel is entirely different from standard. 69-73 was all the same.
Where do you live? Around here, it would be rare to see a car without a console at a show. Which is not realistic- I'd be willing to bet less than 10% of any given year had a console.

And yes, the housing bezel is different for the non-console. I believe the shifter (rod and base) is different as well, it comes as a complete unit (housing, lever and handle) on console, where the non-console one you buy each piece separately. The shifter selector light is different as well.
I don't think I have seen the housing/well that fits into the floor (lever and transmission connect through) available as a reproduction part. You may have to look for a used one of those, but I have never specifically looked for that piece.
you should really have a diagram for this project. If you have any parts catalogs from any aftermarket mustang parts dealers, most of them show exploded views of all the parts required for the non-console cars.

The 67-68 shifter had two brackets added if there was a console, and the lever had an eye on the front instead of a clip on the side for the indicator light. The 67-68 shifter assembly is available new.
