8" or 9" rearend

just wondered what rearend the 69/70 mustangs came with if they came with a 302 engine.

i think all 302s were 8"

Not 100% sure, but the axle tag will tell you. From a chart I have, 8" rears start with WCx-xx or WDx-xx or WEA-xx. 9" rears start with WEB-xx and down.

You can also tell by the bolt pattern. This is the pattern for a Ford 8" rear:



And this is the pattern for a 9" rear

if you are actually at the car it's very easy to tell. if you can access all carrier bolts with a wrench and socket it's 8". if you need a spanner for one of them (pinion carrier is in the way) then it's 9". but yes. the picture shows the 9"n being more roundy which it is
