Hey you guys i have a '65 mustang with the original instrument panel
but i really like the 1965 GT and 1966 style gauges,
will a '65 gt -or '66 panel work in its place???

 

it will, I don't recall exactly what all it has, so you may need to change your sensor and change your underhood wiring harness. Maybe need to change some wiring for a different year's gauges, But it will fit

 

One of the biggest differences is the turn signals and if it is an alternator car or generator car. I've only completed this on alternator cars so my instructions are for alternator cars. The 65' standard has 2 LH and RH signal wires going to a single bulb (blue and green if I recall), then the bulb retainer grounds to the cluster housing. So when you hit the turn signal LH or RH the bulb gets power and shows you the signal is on. The 66' or 65' GT setup has individual wires dedicated for LH or RH signals (same colors as 65'), each going to their own bulb.

To replace the 65' standard instrument cluster with a 66' you need to cut these 2 wires and run each to it's own dedicated bulb and make sure you have a good ground. It really is about that easy. The rest of the harness is about the same (fuel level, oil pressure, voltometer, water temp.) just plug and play. Get a test light and go to town, lol.

 

Call Glazier Nolan, they can send you instructions on how to alter the wiring to use the 66 cluster. They could also provide any parts you need to do it.

If your dash isn't notched for the round speedometer on the '66 cluster you will need to modify your dash a little. Pretty simple, did it to mine.

Actually, the 5-gauge cluster will go in without modification, it's just a little tight.

 

Mine was too tight right in the middle on the bottom but nothing a hammer didnt fix
