I just finished my quarter on my 66, and same prob. I spent hours massaging and tweaking. Probably test fitted that panel 50 times. One prob I found was the new panel was too straight up at the top. Once you turn the top inward, it slides into place every time.

Thanks for the tips....

I have not had a chance to spend any real time on the panel since I posted... It has been on my mind though. I have looked at it again with fresh eyes, and noticed that the door jamb lip may not be allowing it to come back all the way. If you look at the way it was stamped, you will see how it folds back in on itself, and then bends back out giving it that crease running the length of the lip. I did open it up a tad, but looks like I need to bend it out more.

Default Corrected

That was it. Once I opened up the door pillar flanges on the quarter panel, it came back another 1/4" and closed the gap.

Default Update.. both quarters on.

I have both quarters on now. The driver side went on much smoother than the passenger.. attribute to "experience" and the fact that I did not have to jack with the fender well as much. In the words of Jim Carrey, it fit "like a glove."

The issue I have now is that the rear deck lid does not fit as well... it seems as though the repop quarters do not have the same contour as the trunk lid.

Wondering if a repop trunk lid would fit better?

Anyone else encounter/correct this issue?

These are not the best angles to see that the center of the trunk lid is a bit higher than the front and back. The quarters do not follow the same bend.

Mine does the same thing, worse on the passenger side. You're right. The repop quarters don't follow the lines exactly.

This is common to all Dynacorn 64-66 quarters, the opening toes into the trunk lid a bit at the end, requiring considerable massage. Still doable, usually without cutting or welding. Perhaps they will improve when Dynacorn begins assembling 65 bodies. It certainly helped with the later ones.

So you can really see the curvature on the trunk lid, and the lack of one on the quarter panel. I am happy with my gaps... not perfect, but even.

I am glad to know this is how these repops are, and that it was not something that I did wrong when hanging them...

The question becomes, how do you improve this situation? Hammer/Dolly on the quarters to bring the edges up a bit, and finish the rest with and 8th inch of filler?

Would a repop trunk lid fit flatter?

I just need to wrap my head around "how to do it"... from there, I can get it done.

I know this is an old thread, but how did or did this ever get resolved?
I'm almost at this stage now putting my quarter panel on.
If the OP is no longer here, any one else got incite on this?

You'll see that the top of the repop panel is less curved than the trunk lid, right? I had to take a light duty floor jack and put it inside my trunk and pushed up on the underside of the repop to give it the proper bow to match the trunk lid...slow and easy, push up, release, inspect, little bit at a time. Stand up a small piece of 2X4 between the jack and bottom of the repop to make up the space difference. It sounds stupid, but it worked. And they say these panels only need a little massaging...my azz!!! every single panel i've bought has required major cutting and adjustments...
