is a 67 inline 6 car worth putting a 351 in it?
I am looking at a cheap 6 cylinder car and was wondering if it is worth the money to put a larger engine into it? I know suspension will need to be changed and rearend.
Well, it's a lotta work, and the 200 can easily be modified to get as much power as a stock 289 2V.
Changing to V8 will harm the resale value, as in it's no longer original configuration, but of course you're killing the value of a 6 cylinder car, so you may not care.
The 351W swap is as easy as a 289 or 302, just specify all the engine-related parts as "1969 Mustang".

depends on what it's worth to you. it can be done for around $2k if you are a good scavenger and know the right people. it can be done for about $10-15k if you want top-shelf all-new stuff.
you'll need springs, engine mounts, fuel lines, trans, drive shaft, rear end, wheels, brakes, radiator, throttle linkage. springs are cheap ($80/pr), engine mounts are about $100, fuel lines about $100, trans is $100-$2000 depending on model, rear end is $200-$1500 again depending on model and whether you're buying new or used. drive shaft is $200 or so. wheels are $150-$2000, brakes are ~$300 - $3000.
i'm doing it to my car but i bought the car knowing that 1) i don't care about its value too much and 2) i was going to replace all of that stuff with modern components anyways and 3) it give me license to do whatever i want to the car without worrying about keeping it original. i didn't want to pay the v8 premium to just throw away the original components.

You'll need new motor mounts (i think), new engine, new front suspension, new exhaust, probably a new trans, depending, or at least the conversion kit. Brakes... If you move from a 4 lug to a 5 lug you'll need new rims too.
The straight 6 mustangs do not sell for nearly as much as the v8 equipped models in my area (dallas). So I think that upgrade can actually increases resale value unless you have a mint condition inline 6 equipped model. If I had a 67 with the 5 cylinder in it, I would just look at the cost to upgrade it vs buying another V8 model. Course if you have history with the car, then by all means make the switch. The fun factor of having a nice torqey V8 will make it worth the investment.
Might want to look around at cost on the motor though as a nicely set up 289 can produce 300hp which is fun and 289 motors are still fairly easy to get. A odern 302 is another option. Lots of folks pull them from 80s or 90s GT mustangs that have been wrecked. Lots of options for re-motoring a 67 stang. Just depends on budget and what you are wanting out of your car.

A 67 can be done fairly cheaply because all the front suspension does not need to be changed. A disc brake conversion and new rear end will do the suspension. Then it is just drive train stuff. Up grading springs would be a good idea but not needed. Change the gas pedal, motor mounts and radiator and you are just about there. I say go for it. I did. This is my I6 converted to a 347 stroker and a 5 speed.
