cool. hope it gets you sorted :-)
get an inline fuel pressure gau ge while you're at it and plumb between fuel pump/filter and carburetor. close to the carb. This will show you what you're dealing with straight away

So I'm getting ready to drain the tank and make the change. Do I dump the old fuel or...? Also, should it look any different coming out?

Not sure what you mean by dump it....Try to find a place that will dispose of it for you...If none available dump it in a metal container and then burn it off in smaller quantities such as in a 1 gallon paint can. Fill the gallon can about halfway move it to an open location away from everything and toss a match into it...its not nearly as bad as it sounds it will take about 20 min to burn a 1/2 gallon. Some hippies on here might throw a fit about this advice but its better than just using it as weed killer. Hopefully you can run the tank about dry before you drain it.

Before you drain it you can bang on the bottom of the fuel tank with a fist and then drain it and look for rust deposits in the drain pan. It should look clear like vodka.

Good luck with that.

The old fuel will probably work just fine as lawnmower gas. Just use a funnel with a screen in it to catch any big chunks when you pour it in.
