Default whats needed?

now i know that you guys are fairly hard set against going modular with this classic mustangs....in all honesty i seriously doubt ill do it BUT! i was wondering exactly what is needed to be done to the car and what parts are necessary to make it work, this is speaking if you have a downer with all the necessary parts for the engine. So if you guys wouldn't mind humoring me and giving me exactly what id need to do it id greatly appreciate it.
btw: i have a 67 coupe....from what i understand they are a tad bit wider but not by much.

your going to have to get rid of the shocktowers one way or another. theres many different types of suspension that will do this.
one of the most popular is the mustang 2 front suspention. heidts or many other companys have them. also martz has a nice suspention. other than that im not completely sure. you will have to get a trans that will bolt up, i dont think anythin out of a classic will, so you will probably need trans tunnel modification as well.. new driveshaft.. etc

There are special shock towers available for the 67-70 for just such conversions. The replace the bulky towers you have. They have the stock location at the top for the export brace, but then flatten out considerably for clearance on large engines, such as the modular. There are no holes for the suspension, of course, since this kind of widening requires Mustang II etc, suspension. With the heavy steel panels, and brace mounting points, these will make the car much stronger than the usual sheetmetal conversion. I heard about these from Glazier Nolan.

You will need to notch the shock towers, or put in a M2 suspension. It is probably easier to do the M2 from all I have read. After that it's not that big a deal. Get a complete donor if you can so you will have all the doodads that will cost you a fortune to buy a piece at a time (preferably a Mach 1 or Cobra, and ideally an 03/04 Cobra!). Plan to use a Telorvek/Detail Zone wiring harness kit (~$850) or spend a LOT of time and money modifiying the stock setup (which is what I did).

You'll need a new fuel system to run the EFI (which you will with a 5.0 EFI swap as well). Plan on a 255 LPH pump (Walbro) like the Tanks, Inc. in-tank kit.

Fitting the engine into the bay once the shock towers are gone is not a big deal. You will probably need to modify the trans tunnel a little since the newer transmissions (T-45/TR3650/T-56) are larger than the T-5 and top loaders. You probably will need to at the least change the transmission yoke on the drive shaft, and maybe have it lengthened (and might want to get something stronger and upgrade the rear end to an 8.8" or 9"). I used an 06 GT transmission and driveshaft, lengthened 2 1/2", with an 8.8 Explorer rear.

Then you will need to get used to people staring at your engine bay at cruise-ins, saying 'Oh @%*!' when you raise the hood, asking dozens of questions, people taking pictures of it all the time, and winning best engine trophies at car shows. You also will need to get used to great acceleration (high 12s should be within reach with a N/A engine) and 20+ MPG city/hwy average.

The Mustang Shop link above is excellent, and they have other 4.6 conversions on their site as well. You can also call them for info - they are very helpful, even if they don't get to take your money. Reen Machine also has an excellent build log on his site: http://www.reenmachine.com/ Look at the 67 Shelby Covertible project. By the way, the Reen car was listed at $139K and sold before he finished it (though I don't know what he got). Maybe this mod thing isn't a bad investment. My plain jane coupe appraised for twice what a restored original 289 coupe does.

Talk to http://www.dvsrestorations.com/ hes done a few of them if you want the best handling with a mod motor http://www.griggsracing.com/ or http://www.gmachinechassis.com/ has a frame you bolt your car on but have to make your own core support and gas tank to use it.
