Default Cobra front break swap.

So i have everything i need to do this swap. I bought the kit from street or track and picked up calipers from ebay ($279 the cheapest i could findw/pads) and some slotted rotors from summit.

I am going to start it right after i get the explores rear end installed.

my question is, has anyone here done it? what type of results will i get. Will they lock up easy with hard braking?

maybe a pic or two

You may need an adjustable proportioning valve to set front to rear brake bias if you don't already have one.

You have to replace the master cylinder for one for disc/disc.Watch which kit you bought from them they have two one uses the vintage offset one works with newer wheels.

I did SN95 Cobra 13" brakes on my 68 with slotted rotors as well (along with other SN95 suspension stuff), and I also did disc brakes on the rear. I swapped in an 87-93 power brake booster that was for disc/disc setup ( I believe those were the years if I recall correctly from my searching).

I was used to 4 wheel drums on the car and its awesome now. Stops on a dime, doesnt pull or jump side to side and is overall really smooth.

Good luck, youll enjoy it.

Andrew
i only bought the brackets and the centering shim. I bought the rotors and the calipers form other sources.
The difference in the kits is the HAT size on the rotors. I have new wheels so i should be good using the standard disk size.

i will also have 4w disc. i am in the process of the explorer rear end swap also.

I cant wait.

is the power booster the way to go. I was not planning on installing the booster.

In my opinion yes...i can honestly say going from HORRIBLE manual four wheel drum brakes to this setup..is awesome...the brakes are responsive but NOT grabby...they just feel smooth and clean..as ALL brakes should.
