Default TailLight Panel Idea

I was at the shop this weekend working on my taillight panel when an idea occured to me...

Well, since i was sanding my taillight panel i had to take off my bezels in order to not damage the taillights.

Once i had gotten down to bare metal two ideas occured to me...

1- Since i'm painting my car black, and the whole thing is in epoxy now, save the roof, i have a general idea of what it will look like. But since the taillight was down to baremetal...or silver, i got the idea to paint the taillight panel a silver metallic to contrast the blackness of the entire car.

2- The second idea was to not put the bezels back on. My friend recommended that i just take the bezels off, weld the mounting holes shut, mount the taillights in a different way and bam, i have a unique looking 68 rear end. Without the Bezels the taillights are flush with the panel...making it look like a modern stang.

some pics:

the bezels are on the right, no bezel on left

a close up of the bezel-less taillights.

another close up.

let me know what you guys think about the idea...i think it'll look great!

I think it would look great too.

They have tint you can get for you lens. Basically until you turn on one of the lights it looks black. Looks really sharp. Maybe do an LED sequential light setup.

Look forward to seeing what you decide and the finished product.

Good idea.

Troy from rad rides did this on his fastforward fastback project, and it looked pretty good.

Since you are asking for opinions, I guess I'll have to be truthful and be teh oddball here. I don't like it. There just seems to be something missing in the final product. Being the original nut that I am, I would put new bezels on it.

Call me cwazy but I agree with Glen on putting the bezels on.... or if ya want to keep them off, I think there is too much space between the lenses and the only way to fix that would be some wider red lenses and some custom metal work. I think it would look cool with about half an inch of metal between three wider lenses. More like the newer stangs. Just my opinions.

My 2 cents... It'd look unfinished. Like Jinxed said, without metal work, it would look cheesy to me.

But... That's only my opinion.

C!

-added stuff here-

Ugh! That car looks pregnant!

I wish someone would smack the crap out of Foose for throwing big rims on these cars!

y the heck does it look that fat in the rear? I like the wheels and I like the car, but I don't like the way it looks. Is it the angle the pic was taken at?

Not sure how youd chop top a fast back, but if that roof line was a few inchs shorter I think it would look alot betta.

Yeah, I generally dont like what troy does, especially those monster rims, they just look too "bling."

Clutch's car is much cooler, and much more original than that new thing that's not going to be as cool looking in 10 years.

(I still think it's better than the eleanor)
