We came out to go to work one morning and found our driver side window popped on our 91 Mustang (brand new then). On the way to work we saw another car down the street with their same window broken. We drove up and down a couple of the side streets and saw the same thing, 2-3 car windows blown out on each block. We counted about 17 total, but later on the news they said that upward of 60 cars had the windows blown out by pellet gun during the night and no one saw or heard a thing. Everyone discovered it in the morning on their way to work.(The price you pay for living in quiet, dark residential areas in LA) We just happened to be the lucky ones on our street.
Since then it has happened twice more that I have seen, with the number of cars being hit increasing. Dumb *** kids with a pellet gun and a car just driving up and down the streets blowing out windows for fun.
We paid $400 for that window. If I had a choice, I would prefer a tire punctured. It is horrible to have it happen to you, but it could be worse! (example, a few years ago some idiot was tossing molitov cocktails into parked cars each night for a couple weeks. They caught him, did it to watch them burn........)
Sorry it happened to you.

Video surveillance cameras should be installed if you keep your classics outside. Prices have fallen over the years and today a decent day/night camera can be purchased for a few hundred bucks.

This doesn't help when it happens away from home but helps to identify those random night time vandals. The satisfaction of printing out a photo, passing it to the cop then seeing the arrest is too sweet!

It sucks and I feel for you. I've never had tires slashed but I've had a car broken into before.

sucks doesn't it! I had it happen to me about 3 years ago. Just dumb kids driving around causing trouble. What needs to happen is the kids get caught and then make them (or their parents) pay for the damages. In my case, the cop said nothing will be done and that they get 20 or so reports of vandalism per week in my area so cops don't even try to investigate them anymore. Sad but true...

I live way out in BFE now, and I have alarms and surveillance up, plus dogs. I know when someone is here. When I was stationed in Charleston SC, I lived in an apartment. Some kids took the Alpine out of my F150 by smashing the window. I wonder if they felt silly when they found it unlocked. The stereo was water damaged from a leaking windshield so I wasnt concerned about it, it would turn on and the volume would go up and down, but it was stuck on one station and all the other functions were inoperative. When they took it there was a $1500 set of wheels in the back of the truck, and my toolbox with around $10k in SnapOn, Mac, Craftsman, SK, and other hand tools. Thats how I know it was kids, they didnt know the value of anything else and they could take my pos stereo to school and sell it.

Lived in that apartment for three years, my 70 GTO was in the parking lot, unlocked, the entire time. There is an advantage to having your car look like crap. It had a nice stereo in it, but the one in the dash had stock looking *****, no kid wants one of those.

i was driving behind a couple of vandals on a looooong back road, and they were just barely visible, then they slowed down, and sped off out of sight, when i got to where they were, busted mailbox, then i saw another....
now, at the end of this road is my house, so i pushed the little 6 cyl that could to the max, then i saw they had busted out the rear glass, side glass, and side view mirror off of my neighbors truck.... well i got real close on their bumper so thankfully they didnt get my mailbox, i got their tag number, and i heard from my neighbor about a month later that they caught the kids, never heard from there though.

its crazy what some people would do for fun tho...

Same as.... mine happened about 6 years ago, my ex GF scratched every panel of my car and then when she tried to slash my tire, she managed to close the knife up over her thumb and nearly took the top of her thumb clean off!! She had to knock on my door for me to call an ambulance as she was too hysterical to call them herself!!

She had to fess up when they asked how she did it and why she was on my property!! I was shocked at the length of her ferociousness!! A woman scorned an all that!

Silly Bitch had to pay her medical costs and my expenses for repair!! Oh vengance was not so sweet for her!! LOL

No charges were pressed as I was happy as long as she paid costs!

Who was laughing while drinking his beer that night?? Yes..... it was me!

I'd have pressed charges to the hilt. I doubt she adequately learned her lesson.

Not much worse than a vandal, at least a theif gets something out of it.

I would sit outside with a pellet gun or real gun depending on where you live and drink beer and wait for them. Soon as they show themselves and catch them in the act I would shoot out their windows. Like to see them explain that to their parents / pay for it
