65 Stang Rust
Hi,
I am getting ready to restore a 65 with a lot of surface rust. I expect there to be a great deal of pitting after I sand through the surface rust. ANy ideas as to how to fill in? I was going to sand the rust, treat with POR (good idea?) and then prime immediately. Is this a good game plan and once again what do you recommend to fill in any rust pitting? Thanks

Good idea to sand it down to bare metal, then POR the heck out of the still rusty pits. After that, a very thin coating of bondo type of smoothing agent is what most pros use, but I would consider a very thin coating of fiberglas resin, then sand that down to a glass like finish after it hardens.
I would spot blast the pitted areas if you have access to a spot blaster.
If not, por15 would be your best bet, and then as soaring described I would also use a very thin coat of fiberglass resin over the pitted areas to smooth them out.
I'm not sure, but I think there is another way. You could just spray several coats of urethene on the pitted areas and block it out. Don't know if this'll work, haven't done it myself yet.
