Should I keep the engine?
I am resto-modding a 68 coupe, 200ci stock engine. It is the original numbers matching engine that was in the car from the factory, and I am wondering if I should keep the engine with the car?
I am putting a 351 in it.

For one this only makes sense if you plan to sell it.
If you were gonna keep everything original except for the engine then I'd say yes but if you're restomodding and changing lots of things to be different from what it was when it came out of the factory I'm not sure how much sense it makes to keep the engine.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like an all origional car should be kept and restored back origional.I think it would be worth more restored back like it was from the factory. But since you don't like the small engine I know you will make it like all the others out there.....just another fast non origional car. No hard feelings just my opinion.
i have kept everything i have taken off. my original 370,000 mile 200 is sitting in my storge unit with everything else. highly doubt i will every put it back to stock but just makes me feel better to know i can if i want to
I think, once I take it out, since it is the Original engine, I think I may set it aside as a project to refurb it (and everything else). But I'm not so interested in making an all original car, since there are a ton more inline 6 68 coupes.
If the original were a 289 then yes, keep the original but since it is a 6, no need to save it imho. Bottom line is the 6 cylinder cars don't really hold the same level of collector value unless they are exceptional in every way. The car would sell for more with the non original v8 than the original 6 cylinder.

I agree with oldrock as well. The first thing I sold was the 6c cyl engine I took out. I'll never use it and I sold it to a person looking for an original Mustang engine for their car. I also don't have the space to store it if I wanted to.
Old rock is right on the money...truth is, unless it was a 6 cyl stored in a time capsule or you have a ridiclous amount of money to through at it using new old stock, you will increase value by doing the swap.
As you can see from the picture below...I opted to keep the original inline 6
Yea..she's all factory baby....
