Drum to Disk Conversion
Hey i was wondering if anyone knew of any drum to disk brake conversions that will work with a 66 mustang other than the granada? Also if not, is it better to get the granada conversion or buy a conversion from a mustang store. If it matters i am putting 17 inch gt bullitt wheels off of the new mustangs. Thanks
The Granada swap is well known, but there are pros and cons that I think warrant getting the OE style 65-66 discs.
The G is cheap up front, but later you have to get new pads and probably calipers anyway. Still cheaper, but not dirt cheap.
The G uses a much larger outer tie rod end pin, requiring you to buy OTRs.
The steering arms and limit stops on the G are different, and you'll either have to modify them or live with the small differences.
The G uses special spindles, while the OE uses the spindles on the car now. This means you'll spend the day ripping your suspension apart, a step you can skip with the OE.
Having changed the spindles, you'll need to shell out for a wheel alignment before you can drive the car, another step you can skip with the OE.

The Factory K/H system has 11 19/64" rotors, will fit all newer 14" wheels, all old 14" disc brake wheels, and of course will fit 15-16-17-a bigger wheels fine.
Plus with the Factory 4 Piston per caliper K/H system, you don't have to change the Spindles on a 65 66 67 V8 Mustang!!

The 68 69 Mustang, Fairlane, Torino, Montego, AGAIN, Drum Brake cars, Etc all used the 66 Fairlane C6OA Spindle, Everyone.
The 67 Mustang used this as well, So all 68 69 Will accept, Bolt on the 4 Piston K/H Disc brakes with 4 Pistons per Caliper, 11 19/64 inch rotors., Big stopping power.
Now the 70-73 Mustang. These were C9ZA spindles----These are "the big Bearing Spindles" SAME SPINDLE, Just a Bigger Bearing Journal---I think in the 80 Thousands range, Hell can't recall.
To adapt the K/H 4 Piston setup, all is needed is to Knock the Races out of the 65 66 67 Rotors, install the 70-73 Races, WITH the A 12 A13 Bearings, All will fit! Walla, You got the Cobra Brakes on your 70 Drum Spindles.
We help folks with this daily.
