I put 6.5" Infinity componet in front. Bought the kick panels with pods on them but the speaker covers were bigger around than the pods so I used bondo to fill in the 1" gap.
Came out OK I think.
Also agree that it sounds better with something good up front. I also have Infinity 5X7 on rear packge tray to balance out the sound & give some rear fill. I have the fader set more to the front speakers & like that best.
Also put a small sub in the trunk so my other speakers don't have to handle too much lows.
700W Sub Amp, 700W 4 speaker amp & Pioneer head unit (in glove box) round out the system.
Check my gallery for pics.

here are the kick speakers.

Where did you get your kick panels? Are they deep enough that your 6.5's fit?

+1 on Infinity speakers and especially their components. They also make a 2 and 3 way speaker with a built in crossover which is preferred over a regular coaxial but still not as good as true components. I'm getting the Infinity Kappa 62.9i for my kick panels and rear trap door. BTW, anyone know if the trap door on a fastback is tall enough to mount a 6" speakers?

Are those Kappa 62.9i-speakers going to fit? There mounting depth is 2+3/16" or 55mm.
Here I could get the Kappa 652.9i, but that mounting depth is 2+3/8" or 60mm. I'm highly doubting it will fit.
Or I can get the Reference 6532si, which only has a mounting depth of 44mm or 1+3/4". They'll defenitely fit, but how does the Kappa hold against the reference? I could listen to the Kappa and that one sounded great!

@ Art Brock: where did you place the tweeters than? What infinity's did you use and how big is there mounting depth?

The guy working on the car is going to mount the side kick panels and than measure it for us. According to what comes out of that we'll be able to buy deeper or less deep speakers.
I'll keep you guys posted

No, I don't think they will fit but I plan on cutting some rings out of either a dense foam or wood to flush them out enough to fit.

All 4 of the Infinitys are Kappa.
Fronts are 6.5 Component w/1" tweeter.
Rears are 6x8 2-ways.
Sorry but I don't remember the model numbers. They are about 2 years old & are whatever Infinity was selling at that time.
The kick speakers are tight & the magnet is touching the metal of car. Think I put a little layer of something there between the speaker & metal.
As far as Kappa vs Reference: I love my Kappas. My neighbor has 5x7 References in his Ford Sporttrack & they also sound great & have a lot of bass. Maybe more bass than my Kappas, but I have a sub so that doesn't really matter. My Kappas are a lot louder & clearer though, but I have more amp than his stock unit. I put References in my Jeep Cherokee & not so good. Probably not enough power to push them good so probably need an amp.

The guy working on the car mounted the side kick panels and measured the clearence on 2" or 50mm.

That means a pair of Infinity Reference 6532si is going to fit just perfectly
If we want more we can always change it later and build something like a ring!

i would just use them in the front (they're plenty good) and at a later time get some for the back. however I have no idea whered to mount them in a fastback
