Default Distributor for 351C???

Hey, my 351 Cleveland has an old Mallory Double Life Dual point distributor with a mechanical advance built into it. Now I want to replace this unit with a new electronic distributor with no points. Any suggestions? Stay with mechanical advance types? How about a Unilite for about $300?

What I know is if you have a tach it might stop working with the electronic unless you an adapter.

Yep, it has a tach, the car is kinda like yours, its a Mach I, just put in a 4 spd. auto overdrive as the orig. fmx blew last summer. What distributor do you have?

I use an OEM point distributor. I am also getting a dual point distributor ready for my Boss clone conversion. I know about the electronic ones from prior research I did on the subject.

I am about to put in a 4 SPD as well. I have all of the parts except for the output shaft yoke and the frame side z-bar mount. Perhaps you can help answer a flywheel question I have in below's thread:

Cheers,

Sorry, dont know the answer to your flywheel question. On my 351C Mach I, my mechanic put in a 4 speed automatic tranny from an early 80s Grand Marquis, he did not mess with the flywheel to my knowledge and there is nothing on the bill about it.

You can pull a Duraspark from a pre computer controlled 460 or the 351/400M engines, its a drop in deal, same distributor and they are cheap and plentiful. Otherwise I like MSD and Mallory.

His 4 speed automatic is an AOD and doesnt have a Zbar since its an automatic. If I can ever get one of my AOD's to work right after I rebuild them I will put them in my cars too.

I've got a distributor for sale with a pertronix electronic conversion kit in it. I just pulled it and it works fine. PM me if interested.
