Default Headlight Relays Questions

Ok so Im going to wire some relays to make my headlight wires and have a few questions for those of you with the knowledge.

I plan to mount the 2 relays behind the passenger side headlight bucket. I am going to run a new passenger side headlight pigtail 14AWG to the relay, and have the relay tap into the harness like in the diagram from james at the bottom

Now I was also going to run a another new headlight pigtail 14AWG from the drivers side all the way to the relays and tape that up attached to the existing headlight harness. Would this work to take off the load from the old wires while still putting them to use?

The Relays will be wired to the solenoid and fused as in Jame's instructions.

Will this work just fine?
I figured 2 12AWG wires running across the radiator would be very easy to hide and this way the engine bay looks exactly the same.

Was using this as my guide just wanted to hide relays and have close battery connection so decided to relay from passenger side

I would mount them by the driverside headlight bucket, because you could actually access them from under the hood if you needed to repalce one.

You can run your wires like I did. I ran them under the radiator in the radiator support.

The 12 awg wires should be fine. I think you might want to run 10 for the 12V.

Make sure you fuse it.

You'll like having the headlight relays. I have this one.

I did a similar setup but fed the relays with separate wires (low and high beam) instead of being on the same circuit. I used one fuse for the low beams and one for the high beams. This way if a fuse blows I'd still have light.

I wired my hi-beams on 1 relay and the lo-beams on the other as well, but then again the 69's have 4 lights, 2 lo 2 hi.

nba1341, I would make a whole new headlight harness if I were you in 12awg, that's what I did and coupled with the relays made a huge difference.

I just finished doing this on my own car and put the relays on the drivers side. I'll take some pics later but, it almost looks factory. I ran all of the wires inside the origonal harness going across the front so that they are hidden.

I would like to pose a questiton on tthis though....why not use a circuit breaker rather than fuses...that way they would reset like origonally intended and you wouldn't be caught without lights?

Painless wiring makes a kit for that, harness and all. 3 plugs, 2 for the head lights and one that plugs into the existing headlight plug to activate the relays. 90% of the work is mounting the relays and pulling the harness. And yeah, a circuit breaker is a better choice than a fuse.

You will want to wire your so that one relay runs the lows and one runs the highs, but not at the same time when the highs are on. The bulbs will run too hot like this.

If you haven't doen the H4 style capsule bulb mod, a pair of Sylvania Xtravisions 6024 are a good choice. I have them and they work great.

I recently did mine & I mounted the 2 relays behind the windshield washer fluid bag. When the bag is in place they are hidden. Got to work on them, just pull the bag off.

That's the one. I had to modify the plug on their harness so it would plug into the factory headlight plug(just cut the plastic around it off with a dremel). Otherwise it was basically plug and play.
