Default gas tank replacement?

Can someone tell me how hard it is to replace a gas tank in a '66? I have a hole in the bottom of my tank and I need to replace it. Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

It is one of the easier things to replace. Drain the tank, remove the sender wire and supply line, remove everything from inside the trunk that is on top of the tank. You will find several bolts holding down the tank easily accesible from inside the trunk. I'd spray PB Blaster or some other bolt loosener on them first then back then out. Get a piece of 2x4 or something ontop of a floor jack and gently raise the tank up until the seal between the tank and the body breaks then you are home free.

+1 Totally easy. It was the first thing I did on my 67. Get a new sending unit in a kit with the new tank. You should see what my old one looked like when I took it out!

EASY EASY EASY.... like the posters above said. Just remember to put some sealer between the floor and tank before you mount it. Otherwise it will leak water into the trunk if you just happen to be forced to drive in the rain (god forbid).

No, just use 3M Strip Caulk like Ford did. If you get your sending unit from Glazier Nolan, be sure to ask for the new "correct reading" unit, they are the exclusive supplier.

EASY PEEZY. Just make sure you don't have an open flame in your garage, such as a water heater since you will be draining your tank and the fumes can spread. I drained my gas into a 5 gallon bucket.

ive never understood why ford didn't mount the tank in the middle, why does it have to be offset to the left?

I wondered about the off-center mount myself. Caused some problems for me when I installed my exhaust system.
