Price check aisle 3, on 9" rear
Hello boys,
I'm looking at a 9" used housing sandblasted and cleaned
complete pumpkin posi 3.50 or 3.89 rear 31 spline
No axles
From a 67 mustang ( so he says)
Going to be a part of a complete suspension upgrade in my 67 fstbk
What should I pay?
Thanks for any help

I looked and looked for the same thing. the only thing that i could find was a complete rear end with drum brakes. It was $1200. so i think axles will cost about $350 give or take after shipping and everything else.
I would figure the if you can get one from anywhere between $800 and $1k you are doing well. I looked for over 2 months here in AZ and that was the best price i could find.
I ended up getting a 8.8 out of a 2000 expolder cutting the drivers side to shorten it and then cleaning it up. It is going to be installed this week. The bonus with that is the fact that it had disc brakes. It came with 3.73 grears and a trac loc. I paind $200 for the entire thing and $8 for new spring perches. I did not even have to get new pads the ones that were on it were spanking new.
You can find the exploder rear ends just about everywhere since the cash for clunkers deal. they filled the junk yards around hear. It really is a easy swap. and cheap. total cost including pain will be under $300. If you look into it dont forget to buy an extra passenger side axle.
I love the 9" but they are too hard to find and too expensive.

I bought a 9 out of a Versailles and it came with the disk brakes for 400. I have a lead on another 9in that is the housing and 28 spline axles for 50. Shop around and you will find what you want.
Versailles is a good way to go but to make it functional you have to change the gears and the yoke at a minimum. With the used 9 inch you are looking at, if you think it really has a posi with a gear set that you will be happy with, I would consider giving 4 or 5 hundred for it. I'm curious why there are no axles. 8 inch axels are the same so they should not be hard to find but why are they not with the housing? what about brakes? does it have the stock drum brakes. If it really has the posi and a good gear set, that will save you a bunch of money.
YOu can always find 9 inch rears with open diffs commonly. However it is difficult to find one with the right gears and a locking diff and disc brakes. Upgrading a rear end that does not have these will eventually cost a lot more.
So it may seem that you are getting a good deal now. But, you may pay more later when you have to upgrade.

If it is a 67-70 housing and he is not asking too much I would jump on it. If he has the original axels for it I would also get some messurements off them. Make it easier when you go shopping for axels.
