Default Rebuild I6?

I was thinking of rebuilding my inline 6, instead of swapping it for a 302. What do you guys think.
Should i rebuild, or should i swap it for a 302. I know the 302 is better, but my car was an original inline 6 and if i change it to V8 i have to change alot of things to accomidate the Big V8.

Please give your opinion because i dont know what to do.
Thanks in advance.

How much will it cost you to rebuild it?

Personally, I would go with the 302, but I know the bottom line can be quite the determining factor in swapping to a big v8. Take your time though, rebuilding an engine is not a cheap endeavour.

You might think that you have a messy car, but take a look at Clutch's before and after's for his engine compartment.

Take your time and do the job right, and do what you want. Remember, the car can only gain in value if you take car of it. You cant say that about hardly any other car on the road today.

rebuild I6, less than 3,000

complete 302 conversion, greater then 6,000

the feel you get the first time you step on the gas, priceless

Yeah, I have to agree with EZ. After the rebuild of the I-6, you can put a bunch of mods on it to make it go fast. That is a workhorse of an engine, and will give you a lot of pleasure for many years to come. It looks as if you have the body about straightened out and ready for a shot of color. Nice job!

Default EZ had a really great post

In another thread EZ said it is much more motivating to have the V8 go in first. I've been thinking a lot about that post. After doing so many of these things I think I've forgotten that "first" one (which by the way was a fat V8 in a very little truck with aweful steering and practically no brakes!).

He's right, having a big bad Voo-Doo Daddy V8 in a hot little car, is pretty darned inspiring. Might make you think about earning the extra dollar here or there to do all the rest of the stuff.
I want to point out that he is doing all the important stuff before he jumps in and drives that bad boy. And that takes discipline!

So, (IMO) for your first car, if that is what it takes to see you through, I say go for it!!! Pop that engine in.
It would be pretty darned cool to hear that V8 snarl! Plus it would end the issues with what ever is incorrect in the mounting of your I6. Besides, like Soaring said, the body is coming on well, hate to see you give up! And I am all about conversions, money be damned!!!

Gah those conversions are costly and a pain in the ***. But the first time I heard my 351C growl at me (once I finally found out it was indeed a 351 and not a 302 and got the firing order right) I got wood. Drove it around the block and found one of my wifes friends in my driveway. She moved out of my way so I could put my car in the garage. Once I got it in I put it in Park, then hit the gas. My wifes friend almost jumped through the roof of her truck.... Try doing that with a I-6....

On a lighter note what do you want this car for? You want a toy go for the V-8. You want a collector car keep it an inline 6. That is what you need to do.

Default Babe-a-lama???

Well, actually my first reaction to seeing a hot looking car with a 6 is... Is there a "hottie" in the drivers seat???

I've seen more cute single females driving these cars than anything else. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Yeah, I already have a 2000 blazer lowered as a daily driver and i want to use my mustang as a weekend driver.

Thanks for openning my eyes and making me realize I WANT A V8!!

The only thing now is money for the brakes and suspension.

My dad knows a guy that rebuilds engines, i was thinking that i could rebuild my inline 6 and drive it around, while i get the money to put in everything all at once(suspension, Brakes, Engine V8, etc..) or slowly add everything when i have ths money. What do you guys think?

For now I am getting ready to primer it (again, my dad knows someone who can primer it for free) I just have to sand it down, Which is the hardest part of the painting. What color primer should i paint it? I was thinking a black primer.

Default Primer color

The primer color is based on the final color of the vehicle. Your top primer coat needs to be the base that the color coat sits on.

So... what color do you want the car to be. If you're not sure yet, go with Gray, you can always go over gray with black or brown later when you decide what the final color is going to be.

If you know what the final color is you are looking for, ask the guy who will paint it for you what color primer to use.
