Ford's BOSS 302 block isn't really a BOSS block, it's just a beefier version of the Sportsman 302's they were making, though it does fall in line with the original idea of the BOSS 302 block...heavy duty block designed for racing. It's better than the original BOSS block, but doesn't hold the same historical value or significance. Still though, that block with a Clevor build will get you as close to an actual BOSS 302 engine as you could possibly build, without it being the real thing. If you're going for a clone, that block has the factory BOSS look due to the screw in freeze plugs, and 99% of people would never be able to tell the difference.

Talking The one You can't clone.

The Boss 429 is one you can't properly clone, because, in order for Kar Kraft to jam in the physically larger engine, they had to widen the entire front suspension and perform several other minor miracles to make this homologation special engine work in the Mustang chassis.

If you're interested, there's more info on this at

down near the bottom of the 69 mustang page.

The Boss in the 90's was the Boss Shinoda, named after designer Larry Shinoda, who created the 70's Mustang Boss cars as well as the 63 vette, and If i remember correctly, the 73 Camaro.

He thought the 90's cars looked too plain and came up with, what was basically a trim kit to remind you of the early boss cars.

I can't keep myself from adding this here:

In 1973 while in college I came across a Boss 429 with 20,000 miles. The guy wanted $2800 for it. It had a dent in one lower rear quarter panel, but nothing serious. Otherwise the car was in EXTREMELY good shape. I was going to college at the time on the GI Bill and just couldn't come up with the money. The guy called me and offered it to me, as I recall, for something like $2400, but college was more important.

Little did I know that maybe I should have bought the car and put it away instead of finishing college. It might have led to a bigger chunk of retirement money.
