Default what makes a boss??

since my wife n Ive got our 64 think my father wants to get a stang, think this b a good father son project, being we never were good when I was young. think he'd like a boss 3o2 stripe w/351, or 428 or stj. Is the boss its own body? could you make a Klone/tribute out of a different body.

I think Klone is to me like rat rod is to some, there both custom, but it'll never be its top bro""

The 69 BOSS 302 had one unique body feature, the fake side scoops were smoothed over. But then, all 1970 fastbacks were like that.

The suspension, engine, and drivetrain of the BOSS 302 were all modified in some way. Even the front struts and spindles were beefed up. All Mustangs got these in '70. The engine was unique from the forged crank, special block, and Cleveland style heads with gigantic ports and valves. 4-speed only, 31 spline diff, staggered shocks, all sorts of goodies.

You can learn quite a bit about the BOSS 302 here:
http://www.boss302.com/

It is possible to build a BOSS 302 "clone". This car is absolutely completely a BOSS 302 in every mechanical way, except is doesn't have a BOSS VIN.

The boss also had some bracing on the shock towers extra. They made the boss 302 and 429 both 69/70 only in sportroofs in 71 they made a boss 351 sportroof too.

If you wanted to clone the LOOK, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. If you wanted to clone the mechanics of the car it would be a huge, long term undertaking just to find all the correct pieces.

The "wraparound" shock towers were used in the BOSS 302, 390, 428, and almost all 69-70 convertibles.

The BOSS 429 was a special car, with unique shock towers to clear the 429 NASCAR hemi engine, these cars were built from 428 sportsroof Mustangs by Kar Kraft for Ford. The purpose was to legalize the 429 NASCAR engine for racing, oddly they used Mustangs for this, although the engines were raced in Torinos.

There are so many things today that youi can do to a clone that will make a overall car much better than the original. COurse the outside can remain in the Boss theme, but the internals can be updated, much more bang for the buck. Finding all the original parts to do an accurate "Boss" clone would be VERY expensive and in my opinion you would have more money in than you could ever get out.

think 70 fastback w/302 stripe minus the #s302 and a built 351'd be nice 4 dad, and sill not cost an arm n leg.

Not so much. Most of the unique 69 BOSS items, such as thicker struts and spindles, were used on all 1970 Mustangs. The brakes on the street version were the same power front discs used on regular Mustangs. The rear shocks were staggered, but the special mount for this is available in reproduction. The transmission was the regular production close-ratio "toploader". The unique BOSS 302 engine is not so unique any more. Ford Racing is using an improved BOSS 302 engine as the basis for its crate engine program.
