Default Brake light problem - brake light switch

I had a problem that bugged me for a long while. Similar symptoms. I found out it was a bad ground wire on the brake light switch. The brake light switch is located near the brake pedal. It closes the connection when you press on the brake. To diagnose just bypass the switch and see if it lights.

I think he said he checked at the switch and had power out of the switch with the pedal depressed.

AdamGO. I had the exact same problem. Look into the socket the bulb goes in to. Make sure the electrodes are situated so when the bulb goes in it is touching them correctly when the bulb is turned in to place. Mine were turned a little. I used a small screwdriver and moved the inside around a little and bingo.

2+2 has the right idea. If both rear blinkers work then you should check the turnsignal switch. The blinkers and the brakes use the same filiment in the bulb. The turn signal switch will split the brake light signal when the brakes are applied and the turn siganl is on to allow one side to flash for the turn sinal and the other side to come on solid for the brakes.

CFD2bc is correct. I had that problem on my 68 GT. Check socket and of course your bulbs. If that doesn't work start tracing back with your test light. Good Luck!

It can't be the socket he stated that his blinkers are working.

It was on mine. Lights and blinkers worked. No brake lights. Rotated the socket just a bit and then had brakes.

Not sure how that is possible since the the brake lights and the blinkers use the same filiment in the bulb, the same connection in the socket and even use the same wire going back to the bulb.
