Question 65 Door Panel Removal

Are there any tricks to removing the door handle and window crank from a 65 mustang. It doesn't have the screw to remove. I don't want to damage the upholstery.

Don't they have a small set screw holding them on?

Don't you have the 65 Shop Manual? That would show you the correct removal steps.

Early 65's have a small c-clip that holds the handles in place. Later 65's and 66's used screws. You can pick up a door handle clip removal tool at most auto parts stores or at any of the online Mustang parts sites for only a few bucks.

If you're careful, you can push the wire c-clip out of the way with a small screwdriver blade. The clip is tucked fairly close up into the large flange that sits against the door panel, but the door panel can be pushed slightly away from the handle to access the clip. Push on one of the legs of the open side of the clip and it will usually come off. Putting them back on is a breeze. Install the clip on the handle and just push it in place.
