Default AOD behind I6??

Hey all, Im curious what it will take to put an AOD trans behind a 200ci I6 in a 66?

I just picked up an AOD for a steal and will eventually be putting a 302 in the engine bay, but that wont be for quite a while, and the trans that is in the car now is having some issues.

What is needed for an AOD swap? Will it just bolt up behind the 200? Im sure I will need a new trans cross member and shorter D/S and all. Will it just bolt right up to the stock flex plate? What about the bellhousing?

Thanks for the help!

You need the bigger bell housing and either a fmx flexplate or a newer aod flex. 164 tooth with a 28oz imbalance and an aod torque converter. The a cable adapter plate for the tv cable that regulates the shift pattern by adjusting the fluid pressure inside the trans. That way you can attach it to your carb like the kickdown linkage. I just got an aod too and am trying to get it all straightened out. look on 69stang.com in the how to section there is an aod article that has lots of links for a c4 swap to aod. also check out my "look what i got today" posted earlier this week its got some good links too.

Apparently the 200 will no bolt up to the AOD. The bellhousing pattern is too "funky".

I dont see a problem with the 200 being driven around through an AOD... On the freeway is the only place that the gearing would have a major hinderance on performance (overdrive) but then again, I would already be going 55+ so momentum would help out there.

Anyways, its a lost cause. I will have to wait for the 302/331 to be ready to put the AOD in. Going to redo all of the front suspension as required at the same time, but I may make some improvements over stock when push comes to shove.

Aod has a solid one piece bell housing, same pattern as c4. I thought it
would bolt right up.

(Added later) After checking around I discovered that the c4 used two diffrent sized bell housings so I am probably wrong about it matching bolt pattern for an I6
