Default Car just shuts off

I was at a stop light, driving my 76 for the 3rd time, and it just shut off at the stop light, it took 3 GO signals to get it to turn on again. I have no idea why, I'm not a mechanic or anything.
It shakes violently right before it shuts off, and idea why?

I know I didn't provide much clues, but I really dont know where to start.

a few minutes before it died it was running great?

What happens if from a dead stop you accelerate at 100% power through 3rd gear does it pull strong the whole way with out falling flat on its face and without blowing a cloud of smoke from the exhaust?

If yes its probably ignition system... Maybe failing points or coil

carbon button in distributor?

I was once going 70 on the freeway when my coil decided to die and good thing I was on a hill so I could continue to neutral roll to the shoulder

Giant vaccum leak?

Timing issue caused my car to shake violently before shutting off too

hey my friend had that same problem with his 95 cobra we were installing a new cam and we put everything back including the msd distributor that friday he drove it to the track and it would always die on him anywase what happened was when we set the timing on the car the distributor lock nut was loose and caused the distributor to move a couple degrees advancing the timing and the car would have a cold start

Go to harbor freight and get a cheap 30 dollar timing light

Start your car and check your timing to see where your at.

What engine do you have in your car?
