Default First Timer Needs Help-hood, rear valance

Hi!

I have stripped my 67 convertible down to bare metal and am doing the body work. I would like to replace my standard hood with the deluxe model (turn signals) and I would like to install the GT style rear valance.

I have read that some body parts that you buy out of a catalog do not fit well. Could some of you please take the time to relay your experiences? Is there a manufacturer that's better than others? Should I stick with original parts?

By the way, this will just be a weekend driver. Don't need to go overboard.

Thanks for the help!

I have a GT valance I am waiting to put on. Looks to be about the same as the stock one that is on it now. I really don't know about the hood though, I bought a 1968 turn signal hood from a guy locally.

The repro rear valence often requires some "massaging" to get the ends to line up with the quarters.

The hood is easy- just get the one made from the original tooling. If that doesn't fit, your car is bent.

I replaced my quarter, trunk, rear panel, both down panels, and trunk lid on my 66. Massaging is putting it mildly! Some of the bends and cuts are so poor the panels are un-usable. Had to take my left down panel back twice because it was too short, had no material to weld to the rear cross member. Time, patience and accurate measurements are critical. Best advise, don't rush.
