Default Heater Box Question

I have a 1968 Mustang that came with in dash a/c. When I purchased the car it was missing numerous a/c components. I have removed the heater box and only want to put the car back together with a heater. Should I just buy a new heater box or can I rebuild my AC heater box minus the evaporator? If so, do they sell plates to block the holes in the firewall from where the evaporator went through? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Nathan

I replaced mine with a new one, they are not expensive so probably not worth your time to rebuild.

It is perfectly possible to operate the factory AC as a heater only, without having the compressor and hoses for the AC. Even with the AC portion inoperative, your car will be more valuable with the AC in place. There is on commercially available plate for the AC firewall hole.
