Default HP Question

How much horse power do you guys think that you could get out of a 302 with 351 heads. Here's where I see my buddys problem, the heads have a connecting tube from 1 head to the other and have the (thermo bumps?) inside the exhaust ports.Nice sounding cam, roller rockers, headers, aluminum intake and 600 holly. There is no way that this could turn out 500 HP, is there?? That's what the guy told him when he bought it. Can't get it out of his head he doesn't have 500 HP. He also said it was a 347 stroker. Just doesn't sound right to me.

a nice built 347 stroker will do about 400hp, but not with stock 351 heads. you will need to know exactly what's in there before you can guestimate. if he says it makes 500, it's probably 350

In 1969, Ford published step-by-step instructions to upgrade a 302 2V using, among other things, 351W heads to get 355 hp.

The stock 302 heads had all sorts of crap in the exhaust ports, but it is easily cleared out. I know a fellow who had a go at port-matching his 289 smog heads, and using a C9OZ-C hydraulic cam got 321 hp on the dyno.

500 hp with a 347? Not a chance, short of nitrous or a supercharger. Ask to see his dyno slip. He won't have one.

500hp from a 347 is doable...but not with stock heads. Not naturally aspirated anyway.

It's probably more like 300hp if it has unmodified stock heads.
