Default Preping My Self

When it warms up a little bit more in CT i plan on attacking my car.. when body work is done and when the time comes to work with the engine bay i have some questions... I have a 289 2V Sadly its seized i would love to put a 302 in the car. How big of a different is it to put the 302 in will the mounting brackets be the same and is there any clearance problems i need to no.

It should be pretty much a direct bolt in swap job.

A 289 and a 302 are the some thing except the 302 has a bit more stroke. If you come across a killer deal on a 289 don't hesitate to buy it. There is really not any performance difference between the two.

everythoing should fit, but there's a chance
a) the balancer of the 289 is 3bolt and the 302 is 4 bolt (all depends on the years. just check). but maybe you already have one on the 302
b) the inlet/outlet for the radiator might be at different location. Some are both passenger side and some pick up the water at driver side and shove it back in to radiator at passenger side

mounts, intake, carb etc .. all the same

some early 289s were 5 bolt bellhousing, but the 66 shouldn't have that. should be all 6 bolt

Ya I hear you brother. I can't wait till the weather gets better here in CT either so I can get my car out of storage.

If the motor is an early model up to 70's it will bolt right in. If it's a late model motor (5.0) the you will need to make some changes as the other posters have indicated.
Good luck and keep us updated.
