1969 Fastback Restoration
Hey there,
I'm looking to restore this 1969 Fastback as a Father-Son project over the next year or so. I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan but have been wanting to do this with my Father for quite some time, and now after being gone for several years, I'll actually be able to start.
Thing is, I don't know too much about the specifics of Mustangs under the hood, especially the ones from before my time.
I know this has a rusted out 302 (non-running) in it right now, but I'm looking to replace it with a 351Cleveland. Aside from general motor/tranny intellect, is there anything special I should know of or do for this?
I won't be back in America until mid April after this tour ends, but I'm trying to gather as much information and knowledge before hand so I can jump right into it.
Any tips, information, or helpful knowledge from personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cleveland is a nice motor but 351 Windsors have more aftermarket parts available. The engine was the last thing I did on my car but you need to have some general idea of what your long range plans for hp are. Will impact trans, rear end and may want to upgrade brakes to handle additional HP. Hard to tell with pictures but looks like you have some rust to deal with. First thing I would do is take everything off car that is bolted in, bag and tag and then have blasted to see what you are dealing with. Can shoot it with some Epoxy primer. Then move either start body work or move to suspension parts.
I would hold off then interior and engine until car is painted and do them last.
Below is another good site - dedicated to 69/70 mustangs. Just do some research and make a plan - just expected it to take longer then you expect.
Good luck.

Sorry, I forgot to include what we had already decided to do:
1. the interior will have to be completely redone, so we're planning on ripping it all out and replacing it at the end.
2. we're going to try to sodablast all the metalwork to start completely clean for any body work that will need to be done
About primer/sealant after sodablasting, is Epoxy the suggestion? I know zero about that.
thanks again for the help and kindness for a know-nothing like me
