Default engine casting codes

I FINALLY have my engine out of the car and ready for rebuild. I am trying to collect as much info as possible, while everything is out and accessible.

It's a 1966 coupe, with a reported 1968 302 in it.

Engine block casting code - the C5AE-6015E seems to be the usual stamp for this era. I believe the heads are stamped 302.

Some info in Google leads off with this number and "...HiPo...." What other numbers do I need to get an accurate account of what I really have?

Also, I can't find clear info about the 6JT that is stamped above and to the left of this number.

C is for 60s, so C5 is 65. it's a 289 block from 65+
could well be the original that came with the car if the car is C-code, A-code or K-code.
the heads are abviously 302 heads, so they must be 68+

for the 6JT I have no information, but it looks similar to a date stamp

for example 6A3 is 1966 (6), January (A), 3rd (3)
it doesn't have decades, so the decade needs to be gotten from the casting like above

the 289s (at least my old one) has a datestamp on driver side, at the front of the engine at the top of the block, just where the heads mount. a little hump that protrudes before the head. kinda betwen distributor and the oil pressure sensor. check that for the date of the block.

the reference with HIPO. 289 hipos used the same block as the a and c code, so you will find reference for this, but it doesn't neccessarily mean that it is a hipo block. from what i know there's no hipo blocks.
the heads are 302, so they're not hipo either.

Looks like someone replaced the heads of your engine with a 302 set.

Can you show us a pic? 6J'x' translates to Sept of '66 and the 'x' would be the date in Sept. This might help: http://www.hammar.dyndns.org/datecode.htm

Yeah, don't get too exited about the Google ref's, the C5AE-6015-E was used on the 289HP, but also on the 289 4V and 289 2V.

Look for the date code, if you want to know when it was made.

Get the build date code off of the block just above the block casting numbers. I have an extra 289 and the duild date was in march of 66 . 6c7 is the build date on the block.
