8.8 swap

Default 8.8 swap

i know everyone has asked this but im nervous about changing out my rearend. i just got a 8.8 out of a 96 explorer with disc brakes. im see that it is offset is this going to cause any major problems. i haven't lowered my car i did read about that any other problems. what will i have to do to adapt the brakes to my car ive done a disc brake swap already. thanks for any help you can give.

It depends, what wheels are you going to use. If you are going to use the same wheels you have on the car now ( if they are the factory off set) you will need to cut about 2" out of the drivers side axle tube. You will then need to get an additional passenger side axle and then install it into the shortened drivers side. this will give you an evenly spaced pinion shaft and also a rear end that is the correct width for the car.
If you currently have late model wheels with spacers, then you can install the rear end and just bash the tunnel in back to clear the pinion shaft. you can then remove the spacers and bolt the wheels directly to the rear end.

I just finished this swap. I chose to cut the rear end so it would fit properly. It was a good sized job but not too hard.

I have yet to wright it up but if it will help i can sit down and do a detailed wright up and include pics. It was a huge upgrade to the car makes it a thousand times better to drive.

thanks for the help im using rims off of a 2000 mustang gt. plus swapin out the 200 with a c4 for a 289 with 4speed manual. hopefully it will all work together.
