C4 problems

Ok, well I finally got the transmission out of the car and mostly torn apart. Between work and school, these things go slow.

Anyways, what I found wasn't good. Thumpin was right: 3 of the clutches and rings "welded" themselves together.


That wasn't the only damage though. The forward clutch hub has been badly worn on one end.



It ate into the disc spring, as you can see



When I removed the snap ring holding in in place, in simply fell apart.



You can also see that the piston seal is damaged.


So I guess the question of why this happened is still the biggie. Not only that, but I also need a donor transmission to get these parts that broke, or just scrap the whole thing.

If the piston seal was damaged before hand, then would the lack of force from the piston cause the clutches to slip excessively, leading to the disaster?
