Default New with a question

Hello,

I just recently aquired a 66 mustang hard top C code. While I was disassembling the engine, I noticed that in the valley under the valve covers was a 302 stamped. The intake manifold also has a 68 serial number. The stroke of the engine is 2 7/8" so it is not a 302, but I still need to check the crank for the 1m or the 2m to be sure.

Is it rare for a 66 to have a 302 cast 289?

Also How do I post pictures so that you all can take a look. She has some rust but is in fair condition compared to most. The interior has all original carpet, and headliner. the gauge cluster is in good condition as well as the dash.

Thanks for the input.

Your engine is not going to be original, Some 289s were built with "302" cast into the block but not until late 1967 models. So I have read anyway.

The easiest way to post is to post a link from Photobucket or a similar service.

The other way to post pics is to click the "Go Advanced" button visible when creating a post and then click "Manage Attachments", browse to your computer file and upload the PROPERLY SIZED file, kind of sucks this way, but it works.

my 68 has a 289 but like you said its stamped 302 in the valley and heads are stamped 289. they did this when they were fazing out the 289, used all the 289 internals on the new 302 blocks because the blocks were essentially the same

if you check behind the starter on the bottom of the block you can check the serial number of the engine itself to find out what year for sure it is.
