Default rear shock absorber install

hey everyone. ive just installed new leaf springs and shock absorbers on my 66 mustang. i am at the point of torqueing the nuts and i am wondering if anyone knows what i can use to hold the shock absorber through the access hole on the floor pan so i can torque the bottom nut on the spring plate.

I just gripped it with my free hand and tightened until the rubber starts to swell.

The bottom of the threaded part of the shock shaft has two flats and is designed to be held with a 1/4 inch wrench while you tighten the nuts.

I did it by myself and it worked out just fine. I just snugged them up real good like TexAxMan said.

i was confused because i was using the chiltons book as a guide , which told me to torque them to 14-25 on top and 25-40 or something like that on the bottom but i just tightened them til the rubber swelled. the instructions that came with the shocks didnt tell me such things so i thought id check on here to see what you all thought. thanks!
