Brake Bleeding
Thanks, I have been away from my computer and just now able to respond. I use a Mityvac Brake bleeding pump. I start in the farthest away - rear passenger, go to other back and then front passenger and then to driver side. I agree with Kalli, it seems strange that I can get a lot of fluid out of the first one I bleed and very little out of the rest, do get a lot of air pressure. It may be time to replace all of the lines, I have done the front, but I am not getting a lot of fluid out of the front either, but do get air mixed with some fluid.
One more thought to kick around: Over the years, the master cylinder travels only far enough to apply the brakes. A ring of trash will build up in the bore at the furthest point the piston travels causing a "bridge" of sludge or debris. New brakes, and bleed the system, the lower pedal travel during bleeding and seating the brakes causes the piston to move through this trash and sometimes it kill the seals. Our of HUNDREDS of brake jobs, I've killed maybe 3-5 master cylinders by simply stomping the pedal to the floor to extend the calipers after new pads. Over the years I simply short stroke the pedal after a brake job and haven't had a failure since. It may not apply here, but it's something to consider and may help someone else in time.
I'll toss in a few thoughts. The left rear not giving fluid may be that the bleeder is full of dirt and needs to be cleaned out. Remove it and make sure it's clear. You put on new calipers? Did you replace copper washers? To bleed the front, I let them "gravity bleed" to get most of the air out first. Just open the bleeder and let it sit til fluid comes out.
The Calipers are on correctly and the new copper gaskets. I think I will be better off to replace the metal lines to the back I have new ones on the front and check out the bleeders and then start all over again. Appreciate everyones help.
