Default cylinder head timing?

im attempting to do the timing on my engine, i just want to make sure as far as timing the cylinder head goes, when the pistion goes down the intake valve should be getting pressed down by the rockers via the push rod?

Yes, on the intake stroke. 360 degrees later the piston will be going down on the power stroke at which time the intake valve on the same cylinder will be left closed.

This is not, however, cylinder head timing. This is camshaft timing. Are your marks on the timing chain adjacent to each other at TDC of the compression stroke?
