Default Bike Rack?

Looking for a trunk mount bike rack for my 65 coupe. Every site I look at shows 79 as the earliest year for compatibility list.

Any help/ideas/recommendations/links would be great.

Stephen - I think you read his post too fast!

Jbomb - any foldable trunk BIKE rack should work. They're adjustable so that the bike hangs parallel to the ground.

How often are you going to hitch your bike to your classic car? I'd be concerned about rubbing and scratching from the straps/pedals/etc. This next comment may be get me flamed - but if you're hauling your bike in your mustang a lot, you might consider welding on a trailer hitch. Hitch racks are a lot sturdier and keep the bike safely away from your vehicle. Plus they're quicker to put on and take off when not used.

Attached is a picture of a Yakima trunk rack and a Yakima hitch rack for reference. However you can get generic versions for much cheaper. Good luck.

I am not to worried about it dinging or rubbing against the car, mine is a daily driver with just primer black on it. I would be using it at least 2 or 3 times a week.

I thought about getting a hitch put on for this purpose for the same reason you mentioned but I don't know how to weld.

i've been making bike racks and hitches for my biking buds. one went on a newly loaded Camaro and the other one for an Acura.

pretty easy to make, small so it fits in the trunk, and basic so it's not ugly. i install locking skewers.

I've done it. I bought mine at a garage sale for $15. It was secure, but you may want to make sure the clips are well padded where they hook around the trunk lid.

Doh! my bad... Yeah, I read too quickly. I have a truck (2 actually) that I put my bike, motorcycle, whatever in, so it never occurred to me that someone would want to put a BIKE rack on a Stang...
