I'm sure its something in the housing or possibly my starter. It has been sitting for some time at least a year. So it could possibly be the pistion rings as you said rmodel65

Unfortunately I figured "hey the engines out how about a few upgrades" {one winter and countless over time hours at work to order a few grand worth of parts and it's about to be sent to the speed shop to get balanced assembled and dyno'd.Hope to get it running by mid June hahaha. One thing good about Canadian winters it allows you to take your time and not rush because you can't drive it anyhow. haha

ok so i pulled my engine out today and once i had it separated form the trans. it turned with no problem. so i go to look at my trans and the torque converter is wedged in the bell housing and wont turn and i cant get it to pop off... any ideas on how to free it up and how this might have happened?

Wedged in to the bell housing? Do you see contact between the converter and the bell housing? If you do then you have the wrong converter or the wrong bellhousing. There shouldnt be any contact between the two. If this is happening then you need to figure out which is the wrong part.

If you dont have contact then i would guess that the converter wasnt fully seated on the transmission shaft and when you bolted the motor in this froced the conver back and jammed it in. When you get the converter off take a look at the converter and shaft splines for damage.

To get the converter out i would take a pry bar and work it around the sides of the converter till it looses up.

thanks for the info, im pretty positive its the right converter, the bell housing for sure its the original, and i had the transmission rebuilt a while back at a shop and they were the ones who gave me the torque converter. i would assume its the right one

Can you see the converter touching the bellhousing?

you probably didn't get the converter installed properly in the trans and have broken the pump as well as jammed it up.

Maybe the pump got screwed maybe not.

My son let the t/q slip forward and misalign when he installed the c-4 in his Falcon, it did not hurt anything but his pride...

Once he dropped the tranny and straightened it up it was fine, but his t/q didn't get stuck in the bell though...

When I put a new engine in my '69 with a 351W, the pully on the fan housing pinched together with the bottom pully. I didn't check it after I re-attached the fan and couldn't figure out the problem for hours. Just thought I would mention it.
