Default Edelbrock power top end kit for 289 - opinions please

Hi,

I have a 289 from 65 conv that I will be rebuilding in the next few months. I would like to give him a bit more power that it used to have, freshen it up a little, and just renew it. I want to have a solid engine with no worries in near future with an extra power in case I need it

I was thinking about getting an Edelbrock power top end kit 367 HP. I would appreciate opinions on this kit.

Is it worth the money? Will I get what I want ? I know, silly questions More power is actually something I would like but it's not the only reason of getting this kit.

What would you do if you had spare 2000$ for engine ? of course besides money spent on rebuilding the cylinder etc.

Thank you!

id go with ARF165 heads and then pick a cam to match your rear gears and (stall if auto)
or trick flow twisted wedge heads youll make more power

I'm not a fan of Edelbrock's cam grinds. I much prefer Comp Cams' off the shelf grinds.

You probably wont get the total hp they claim because the chambers on the heads will drop your compression. When i had their cam, intake and stock heads i made 305 at the wheels.I got the rpm heads and lost quite a bit of hp.

I don't really care if I get that power they say, somthing in between 250-300 hp is perfectly fine with me.

Can you guys propose some kit (with links) ? Necesseary parts that would match ? I don't really know all this stuff

thanks for replies.

I have the Edelbrock stuff on mine and think it works great for a street car / cruiser.

I don't like most kits. Some mfg's maymake parts better suited to your needs than others.

Here's what I'd recommend:
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Street/Strip heads
Weiand Stealth intake
Comp Cams cam/lifter kit (we can figure out which one suits your needs later)
Matching Comp Cams valve springs
Cloyes double roller timing set
Roller rocker arms (Crane Energizers are inexpensive but work well enough)
ARP head bolts (and a full engine bolt set, since you're rebuilding)
Fel Pro Performance 1250 intake and 1011-2 head gaskets

well if you want to spend that much money you want some power as well. put it this way why use a set that makes less power than another. anyway i'm running that setup minus the cam and it's nowhere near the power it should make, but it could be just me.

if i had to redo it, i'd probably use a similar setup like starfury posted

You also need a trans, rear and suspension that can handle power. And consider getting a hydraulic roller cam, more power, better efficiency, less things to go wrong.
