Default plate beneath floor?

On my 65 convertible, there is a plate below the exhaust and driveshaft that bolts(6 bolts i believe) around driver and passenger seat area.

i had to remove it when my exhaust was put in awhile back and 2 of the nuts that are in the body would just spin so i had to cut the bolt heads off.

i think i can put nuts in the body, but the problem now is the exhaust wont let the plate mount flush. i was thinking of getting longer bolts and using spacers for clearence, or should there be enough room in the trans tunnel for the exhaust and driveshaft?

Is this plate used for structual stability?

I'm just a coupe guy, but yes that plate is found on the verts for addid structural integrity. I dont see why you couldn't use spacers (depending on how far you need to go down). The exhaust and driveshaft should fit in the tunnel as is, but if you have had some aftermarket or custom work done, most likely the installer had no clue and used what space was available.

There is enough room, but it is a pretty tight fit. I only have about 1/4" between the exhaust and front part of plate. I would use some type of spacer as well.
