I am running the tri y ceramic coated headers from CJ Pony parts on my 65. I also have a manual transmission and did not have to do any modification as they fit great.

Sorry, I just edited my post to include that. It is a 65 with a 289.

Yeah, not sure why Cali Mustang lists that. Mine had no problem clearing the linkage for my original clutch although I did have to disconnect it to slide the header in but once in it bolts right back up with no clearence issues.

As for gains, I never drove the Mustang before installing the headers as I ended up rebuilding the motor right when I bought it. It is pretty snappy though and turns the tires over pretty easily.

Doug's, JBA, or Thorley headers are your best options for fit.

We have the JBA mid-length headers (scroll about 1/2 way down page) with a complete SS exhaust from them as well with an H-pipe and Manual 4-speed. Works great and I had no issues installing them. Quality is superb. They tuck up nicely so you have no worries of hitting the ground like you do with tri-y's.

For a 302 you'd want 1650SJ (Silver Ceramic). Optionally if you want to add in an H-pipe 1650H.

What about shorty headers? do they have a clearance issue with an automatic?
