hard starting
Hi, my 68 289 2 brl runs great after doing a little carb work and starts great when cold. After driving and warming up and then trying to restart after shutting down it will start but i have to crank and crank it. Kinda acts like it might be flooded. I readjusted the choke so it stays open at all times. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
When you do finally get it started do you get a cloud of black smoke out of the tailpipe? Do you have a spacer under the carb? Before your carb work did you have the same problem and what was the original carb issues?
Alot of the time hard starting when hot is caused by the hot engine vaporizing the fuel in the carb bowl and this can be fixed with a spacer under the carb.

This car has never ran very good. There is a spacer and gas does pool there. I 'm a backyard mechanic that tries to fix things from getting advice. Thank you and I will revisit the spacer area and recheck float level too. Thanks a lot.
just as rtintwo said, might be vaprozing.
when you have the problem the next time, i guess you'll know even before starting it as the conditions match.
get rid of aircleaner, engine off. look down the carb. press the throttle fully. you should see petrol shooting down the carb. if you don't, then your fuel bowls are empty and you need to crank to fill them back up ...
let us know how long you have to crank until the carb starts spraying when you agitate the throttle while starting.
if it sprays instantly (above is not your problem), then try starting the car with throttle fully open (no pumping). keep pedal on floor till it starts
