Default Zinc additve help

I run VR1 racing oil which is 1400 PPM zinc phosphate.

Just to be on the safe side I would also like to run an additive to get me close to 1800 PPM.

Someone at kargan recommended COMP cams additive #159.

So being the genius I am I automatically realize that all I have to do is find out how much ZDDP is in this stuff and then ask someone for algebra help so that I know exactly how much of this additive to add to my 4qts of VR1 to get 1800 PPM.

Problem is Comp wont tell me how much zinc is in this crap...They are all hostile and like NO!!! thats our dirty little factory secret.... I was like I just held on the phone for 30 minutes your joking right? He's like haha nooo I aint ****ing putting you on buddy.....its a secret...

So of course the first thing that comes to mind is Oh great this crap aint go no extra ZDDP at all its just re-badged VR1 that they resell for 10 bucks for 12oz

So does anyone know of an additive that has a known amount of ZDDP in it?

Thanks

-Gun

Try asking for the MSDS (toward the bottom of the page).

Just use Torco oil or additives, you can call them and ask whatever you want, and they'll answer within reason. ZDDP levels I'm sure they'll give you, but don't try asking for their MPZ formula. :P

really need more when running vr-1? i have added zddp to the first filling with vr-1, but wasn't planning for it every time I change oil. otherwise I'd could just use any oil and use additives

Thanks Norm ill ask for the MSDS!!

Kalli....probably not 1400 PPM is considered safe but at the very bottom end of being safe I would just feel a bit better if all I had to do was add a splash of this and I could get 1600 to 1900 PPM

Really I must confess its probably a lot more about doing it simply because California says not to. "Now your are going to limit my Zinc I'll just add an extra splash... or 2...AHhh **** it I want to replace the whole bucket! So screw you!"

I recently ran across "SF" classified 10-30 oil @ Walmart in Fontana,CA. it was made by an company that branded it as ACCEL. I don't have the specs but it would seem to imply is has zinc in it-not sure how much. jlg

cam-shield.com
They have metered bottles so you'll put in an exact amount.
Make sure you run a high detergent oil too, too much ZDDP will gunk-up your engine.
