Ive been looking around trying to find a 9" for my conversion on my 68 mustang and i know the measurements on the mustang 9" but a guy has a rear end and he measured his at 52 1/2 on the closest points on the backing plates and 42 1/2 center of spring pads. Would this work on my car?

 

Get him to messure flange to flange. That is the way to tell if it will fit.

 

The measurements are correct for a Mustang. If it is a big bearing housing, with a 2 1/2" brake offset, that would make the total width 57 1/2". Subtract 1/4" for a small bearing housing, the width would be 57 1/4".

 

Ok ill keep trying to find out the exact measurements. There is a guy near me who has a 9" and thinks its out of a mid 70s granada and i couldnt remember if people just swap these rear ends into late model mustangs. can anyone help me?

 

Would an early Bronco be the one for him to look for?

 

An early Bronco rear would have the wrong bolt pattern (5 x 5 1/2) as well as a weird brake offset that requires special brake shoes and hard to find drums. Around here the supply of 9" rear end housings that would fit a Mustang dried up about 10 years ago. The best bet is to use a '67-'72 F-100 pickup housing, and have it narrowed to fit.
