I plan on using fordstrokers.com too. I've looked for three years, talked to local guys, whatever. This seems like a really good deal to me and these guys, from what I can tell, know ford engines. I feel pretty comfortable having them build mine. I like the payment plan too. I prefer a small shop to do these kinds of jobs, something that is getting harder to find these days.

ya the more i looked at topic and vids i was thinking 500 would probably be pushing it a bit. I plan on reusing at least all my top end right now since it is all new and would be a waste but i know id probably be choking the snot outta the engine with my 570cfm carb. other simple things will be moved over such as water pump, valve covers, headers (if the exhaust ports are too big), P/S, Alt, etc.

I have always liked the 289 for it's high revving abilities and i first thought about getting a bare block and making bullet proof internals so i could keep that ability. But knowing how I am i just want something that can be pretty easily modified and possibly later on a block that is good to start putting in those good internals and maybe some dish pistons if i wanna shoot for higher numbers.

but ya more on the direct side....can anyone recommend a good head/cam combo for the possible set up. mind you the intake and carb will be on this at first (course i might need to change the carb out right away....but it will probably be just a higher cfm SA) but things will be changed out at time goes along. I'll shoot woody a message and see what he says. Thanks guys

I believe that if you you build a 347 that doesn't rev past 5500 rpm you'll be fine with the 570cfm carb.nice, crisp throttle response

If you want in the 500 range and your starting from scratch why not start properly and use a 351 block. Stroke it to 383/408/418/427 with a roller cam and pistons for low (8.5-9.0) compression and charger/turbo. You'll hit 500 easily. Even going with high 9s to low 10s for compression and without the turbo you can easily hit 500 using a 351 block.

Hows the rest of the car setup and will it handle that kind of power?

i thought about a 351 -> 408 for awhile but i like having a little extra engine bay room and i can move stuff over from my current engine. The rest of the car is still gonna have to be rebuilt as far at tranny and rear head.....sorta wanna get the engine in so i know what ill be needing from the flywheel back. probably either a toploader or T5/T6 and 9" with 4.10's

the suspension is all brand new so that will be fine and hopefully the headers i have right now will work as well. actually the 9th im getting a new X pipe and spintech mufflers so that should all work out well....thinkin it gonna be a 2", 2 1/2" pipe all the way down

yeah yeah yeah!

Talking to a guy last Friday night with a 351w stroked to 428 in a Shelby Daytona Coupe (FF kit) and he was pushing 675 to the wheels. Had the paper to show it to. Sounded awesome and he lit it up when leaving after the show as well.
