Default Fenders

I'm in need of a new fender and was wondering what would be best to do.. The one I currently have is really beat up and would need a lot of work to fix. I was looking into buying a repo (not ford tooling) from mustang plus but has anyone had any issues with those?

They will work, but need more 'adjusting' than the 'original tool'. If you are paying someone, the extra labor will eat up any saving in the cost of the part.

I bought some repro fenders and they are very thin. I havent installed them yet so cant say how they are going to fit. I didnt buy them from mustang plus either. I wish i would have went with the ford tooling.

I have reproduction fenders on mine and they are pieces of crap. The body lines are noticeably off. Anything you can do to stay with original sheet metal will come out cheaper and better looking in the long run.

Going through this issue myself bought a replacement aftermarket driveside front and the headlight bucket and other lines wouldnt adjust right. Took some reference point measurements and the fender is a 1/4" wider than the original. So ill be either cutting it down and re-welding back together or find a original and use this pos to patch any rust.

How beat up is the original? A lot of people that aren't familiar with body work will junk a panel that a professional body person can fix in a few hours.

Stick with the original, the re-pops are VERY THIN and fit horribly!!!!

The only re-pops I would ever suggest are the front and rear valences due to the fact they do not conflict with major body lines

I assume you are asking about fenders for a 66 due to your user ID, but my 70 repro fenders actually fit pretty well. A little massaging with a framing hammer and 2x6 was all it took to get them close enough for my pre-bodywork fitting. Looked like the body lines will be fine. Only thing I had to cut and weld was the spot by the windshield trim on the right fender.
